About Slim Productions

We are small town movie makers struggling to find the time and money to turn the ideas and stories in our heads into motion pictures.

Our goal: To provide the public with entertainment in anyway we can create through the web, sound, events, and especially motion pictures.

To more fully understand Slim let's delve into the past.

Before “Slim” existed, we were the creators of backstage tapes: local thespians acting in numerous plays with high school and community theaters. We decided to throw a camera into the mix and start recording our backstage antics. (Starting with “Fiddler on the Roof” in 2000- CCS) This gave us our first taste of what it’s like to be small town movie makers.

On October 31, 2002, the increase of abnormal activity may have been the cause of filming our first movie. "Slim" is the story of a few high school ghost hunters that are trying to track down a serial killer. The film starts as if we are making a Backstage Tape but then melts into a thriller storyline. The transformation was complete after that night. The Backstage Tapes didn't stop, but we were now able to edit the film with Pinnacle Software and stage our own stories.

It wasn't until December 23, 2002, that the actual idea of Slim Productions came about while filming A Hard Knock Life. This movie has become our cult classic. With the success of this film among our small circle of friends, we doubled our efforts and became more organized. We created full shooting scripts, purchased newer equipment, and found our way to the World Wide Web.

A small MSN community web site and forums allowed us to talk via the Internet about our films and discuss different ways to tell our stories. www.Cafepress.com provided us with our next addition. With their site, we were able to create our own merchandise. Of course, we needed a logo. Our camera-and-boom-mic-toting stick figure "Slick" was created and can now be found on all of our promotional items in the Slim Store.

Our hay day of producing films occurred in 2003 with Boxing Day and then by making a couple of sequels to "Slim", a musical, and a parody of our own movies. Then we took our dear time on a mobster movie. A year and a half later Regime was made and Slim held it's first premier party at Frank's (an actor in Regime) bar. We were finally giving our craft a more serious attitude.

Just like we were growing so were the needs of our web site. In November 2004 www.slimmovies.com went live. Powered by producer Braden's own server, "Bahamut", the new site gave the group an increasing functionality over the content they could provide their audience.

"Time to dip our beaks...” The summer of 2005 we were ready to test our skills. Suggested by a past teacher and armed with the profits from our sweatshirt and DVD sales we were able to enter into the 48 Hour Film Festival in St. Louis. To use their words, "Filmmaking teams make a movie from scratch in only one weekend!" and that's what we did. We had our share of difficulties, but we were able to complete our romantic comedy, "A Sign of Love." We did not receive any awards, but we are all proud of the work. We look forward to competing in years to come.

Now that school has started the group has been divided among different colleges. We were in need of a new outlet for our abilities. Podcasting has become a growing trend on the net, and we have decided to try our hand at it. The Slim DJs can now be heard world wide right here on the Slimcast.

The first ever SlimDance movie festival was held May 27, 2006. Our films as well as a few select others were featured at Breese, IL's Avon Theater.

In 2007 Slim Productions won "Best Use of Line" Award from the National Film Challenge for our film "Purgatory."

The Slim Production crew continues to compete in compititions like the 48 Hour Film Festival yearly.  For more information about the crew check the home page and keep coming back to the website to see what we are up to.  We continue to work towards dissproving our slogan,  "When it comes to movies we know SLIM!"
